Oral & maxillofacial surgeons perform surgical procedures of the mouth, jaws, and face. These include wisdom tooth removal, surgical extractions, biopsies of mouth lesions, dental implantology, orthognathic (facial deformity) surgery, repair of facial fractures, cleft lip and palate repair, facial cosmetic surgery, and the surgical management of temporomandibular (jaw joint) disorders.
There are two oral surgery clinics at IUSD.
Treatment in the Predoctoral Oral Surgery Clinic is provided by third and fourth year Students in the Doctor of Dental Surgery program.
Treatment is available from Residents (Licensed dentists pursuing advanced education in Oral Surgery) in our Oral Surgery Resident Clinic.
Making an appointment
To make an appointment at the Predoctoral Oral Surgery Clinic or the Oral Surgery Resident Clinic, you must get a referral from a dentist who has treated you. This can be a dentist in private practice or a student dentist in one of the school’s Comprehensive Care Clinics.
To get a referral to a School of Dentistry specialty care clinic from a dentist in private practice, have your dentist contact the appropriate clinic directly using the information below.
If you are a current School of Dentistry patient, your student dentist can help you get a referral to the appropriate clinic.
If you’ve never been a patient at the School of Dentistry, you must undergo an initial screening exam at the school before you can be referred to a specialty care clinic.
