Dr. Vanchit John is Chairperson of the Department of Periodontology. In 2023, Dr. Hancock was given the title of O’Leary-Hancock Endowed Professor. In 2024, Dr. John was awarded the IU President’s Award for Distinguished Teaching by the President of Indiana University.

Dr. John began his journey at IUSD in 1992. He had previously completed his dental training and periodontology residency in Madras, India. Following the completion of his periodontology residency and dental degree at IUSD in 1999, he joined the full-time faculty as the Pre-Doctoral Director of Periodontology. He became Chairperson of the Department in 2007. Dr. John is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology. His private practice is limited to Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.
